Here Comes Sunshine and the Sunshine Burger

A couple of weeks ago, you might remember that I was mired in a crisis of faith. I was struggling with burger monogamy (you know what I mean), as the Sunshine Burger at Huey’s had caught my eye after so many years of letting the West Coast Burger wear my letter jacket. So, I went to you, the reading public, and it was with overwhelming numbers that I was instructed to take the West Coast to the used car lot and trade her in for a newer model.

Well, here it is, the Sunshine Burger in all of its glory. Loaded with crispy bacon, sauteed mushrooms, and a fried egg, this burger is farmhouse simplicity at its finest. It highlights the flavor of the burger, and it is a nice treat.

The Sun Will Come Out

I think I’ve come up with a manageable solution. Since I get Huey’s takeout almost as often as I go to eat over there, it is clear that I can get a Sunshine with fries when at the restaurant and a West Coast with rings when I want to bring it home. Why you ask? Rings travel better, and I’m most inclined to eat the egg when it comes right out of the kitchen.

No matter what you get, you can find something that makes you pretty happy at Huey’s. It hasn’t become a Memphis tradition for nothing. K recommends that Asian Chicken Salad, and I’ll have to agree that it is quite nice. Let me know what you think of the Sunshine next time you make it over there. See you there!

  1. When I saw your initial blog post about the Sunshine Burger, I was very excited. I love the recent explosion of interesting fried egg sandwiches at local restaurants. I think that the fried egg BLT is what I’ll miss most from Au Fond Farmtable.

So I tried the Sunshine Burger last Sunday. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it. For me, the bun was the most disappointing part. I’d love to try it on perhaps their wheat toast or some other option. But the egg was also a little overcooked for my taste. I’m gonna chalk that up to it being a new menu item and the learning curve. I’m definitely gonna give it another try sometime soon.

  2. Egg on a sandwich?? Must try!

If your in the mood for a big, awesome burger try The Big Frank at the Green Beetle. Me and some friends went down there last night and man did that thing look good!! :)
