The Final Countdown to One
Take a look at that picture. 5 counts, 5 complete ballers. You wouldn’t want to come across any of these counts in a dark alley. However, only one is bad enough to have his own sandwich. Go into your favorite sandwich shop and ask for a Count Duckula or a Count Chocula, and see what happens…
The Count that Counts
But what happens when you order a Monte Cristo? People that hear your order begin to look at you with a new level of respect and admiration. They might look at you a little like they look at Charlie Sheen, thinking, is that guy crazy or does he have it all figured out?
Why is the Monte Cristo such a powerful conversation starter? This sandwich isn’t just a sandwich to be had at brunch, it IS brunch. It is the ultimate. It is a combination of a ham sandwich and french toast. Warning – Fictional Account of Sandwich History - Sometime, back in the day, Edmond Dantes was sitting in a cell somewhere, thinking about 2 things, revenge and revolutionizing the modern sandwich. You know how his story plays out. He got his revenge. He also created a sandwich that would have people talking forever. End of Fictional Account
Just look at that. A fried ham and cheese with powdered sugar and raspberry jam. I know, I know, you’re reading this and wondering, “where on earth can I get such a thing???” Head on down to Midtown and Fresh Slices will hook you up. Don’t worry about the 50,000 sandwiches on their menu, worry about where you are going to take a nap after you eat about half of this thing. Split it with a friend if you have to. The thing is decadent.
Big Tuna
Just in case that is too much sandwich (or manwich) for you, my buddy gave props to the grilled tuna that he ordered. Mind you, he ordered this after he basically dared me to go “Cristo loco.”
So Fresh
Fresh Slices is a midtown institution. I love that they have sandwiches named after their customers, and it is always a bustling place. They certainly feed you well over there, so get on over and give it a shot. Try the Monte Cristo, really. See you there!
